Sotheby's Institute of Art Research Award
Sponsored by Sotheby’s Institute of Art and administered by the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA), the Sotheby's Institute of Art Research Award was awarded annually for a three-year period in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The award recognizes excellence in a student paper or digital art history project on a topic relevant to collecting or the art market, including the sale, collecting, and provenance of artworks, and historical or contemporary factors and trends that affect the business of art and connoisseurship, with an emphasis on the art market.
One exemplary student paper or digital art history project was chosen to receive the Sotheby's Institute of Art Research Award each year with an award of $3,000.00 to the student authoring the paper; $2,000.00 to the sponsoring library; and up to $1,000 travel support for the student and/or sponsoring library member's attendance at the ARLIS/NA Annual Conference. Authors also had the opportunity to present their SIA Award paper at the ARLIS/NA conference as part of the New Voices in the Profession panel and the possibility, at the editor’s discretion, for publishing the paper in ARLIS/NA’s Art Documentation.
The award presented a unique opportunity to inspire and recognize a deserving student while also promoting the creative use of art scholarship and information resources.
