On behalf of the ARLIS/NA Executive Board and the Portland Conference Planning Committee, I am delighted to invite you to join us in Portland, Oregon, April 4–7, 2027 for the 55th Annual ARLIS/NA Conference. This year’s theme Confluence: Where Art, Information, and Community Flow Together invites us to reflect on the power of connection and exchange as we gather together in the Pacific Northwest region of North America for the first time in over a decade.
Portland, nestled in the Willamette Valley situated between the waters of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers, boasts a vibrant arts and culture scene providing an inspiring backdrop for this year’s conference. Home to the renowned Portland Art Museum, a thriving network of galleries and artist-run spaces, and a rich performing arts community, the city pulses with creativity in all forms. Portland’s remarkable natural beauty offers attendees easy access to awe-inspiring destinations such as the Portland Japanese Garden and the International Rose Test Garden, both located within the scenic expanse of Washington Park and easily accessible via Portland’s award-winning public transportation system. Beyond its parks and gardens, Portland's extensive network of trails, public spaces, and waterfront areas reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and quality of life and what we hope will allow our community to connect, recharge, reflect, and thrive together.
At a confluence, distinct currents come together to create something stronger and more dynamic in much the same way each year ARLIS/NA brings together individuals whose diverse perspectives enrich our field and strengthen our community. This year the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) 2027 annual conference (April 7-10) kicks off at the Portland Convention Center right as our conference concludes, and we hope this close convening enables art information professionals, educators, publishers, vendors, and arts advocates an opportunity to engage in both meetings, igniting new partnerships, cross-pollinating communities, and providing a unique opportunity for our exhibitors and donors to reach two thriving professional communities with overlapping concerns and needs simultaneously.
We look forward to welcoming you to Portland this April and celebrating the many ways that art, information, and community flow together.
