Academic Library Division

The Academic Library Division is the largest group within ARLIS/NA, with nearly 350 members. The Division was established in 1975, and seeks to identify and promote issues of interest to art librarians working in institutions of higher education.

The purpose of the Academic Library Division is to improve resources and services for art librarianship within academic and research libraries and to promote the knowledge and awareness of its members.

The Division fulfills its purpose by sharing ideas and research at formal programs during the Society's annual conference and by submitting articles and updates to Society publications.

ARLIS/ALD is an open forum for discussion about issues uniquely related to art librarianship and information services within college and university settings, including (but not limited to):

  • teaching;
  • scholarship;
  • tenure;
  • collections; and
  • outreach.
