About Yourself and Your Workplace

What do you love about your work?

I am grateful to be a part of The Frick Collection’s community. The Frick Art Research Library serves our Frick colleagues, art historians, artists, students, educators, art dealers, auction house staff, and anyone who is generally interested in studying fine arts or decorative arts. It is a privilege to provide introductions to the Library for our researchers. During these interactions, I have been able to form lasting connections that have created new and exciting opportunities to promote the Library’s services and collections.

What are you working on now that you’re proud of?

Our return to our reading room on 71st street in 2025 has provided us the ability to do more programming in person. As a result, I have been able to promote the Library’s services and collections through class visits with local high schools, colleges, and universities across the New York City area. It is incredibly satisfying when educators whom I have worked with reach out to bring their classes back.

About Your Experience with ARLIS/NA

Who or what inspired you to join ARLIS/NA? What’s kept you renewing your membership after that?

I first learned about ARLIS/NA while working as an undergraduate intern in The Ringling Art Library in Sarasota, Florida. During that time, my supervisor and longtime ARLIS/NA member, Elisa Hansen inspired me to pursue art librarianship and join the organization’s supportive community. Today, my growth in the field continues to be nurtured by the many opportunities and experiences the society provides.

What leadership and/or service roles have you held with ARLIS/NA? What are some skills or other benefits you gained from that service? What advice might you have for others thinking about running or volunteering for a position?

I have served in multiple capacities on the Executive Board for the New York Chapter, first as the Social Media Coordinator and most recently as the Programming Coordinator. Starting my service with ARLIS/NA at the local level was an invaluable experience, as it allowed me to build deep roots within my immediate professional community.

Currently, I serve as co-moderator for ARLIS-L. It is rewarding to facilitate communication within our field while also fostering new connections with colleagues across North America. If you see a role that interests you, I highly encourage you to apply!

If you’re open to being contacted by members with questions, what kinds of topics would you be a good person to ask about? Please share your email address.

Artists’ books brought me into librarianship, so I am always happy to chat about them! As an art librarian who is passionate about teaching/learning, outreach, and collections, I am open to discussing any of these topics or how they intersect. I am also happy to share my career path and answer any questions students or emerging professionals might have about what day-to-day work in an art library looks like. Do not hesitate to email me at vincennie@frick.org.
