Job Description:
The Cataloging & Metadata Librarian performs original and complex cataloging and metadata description in all formats to enhance the discovery of our collections, with a special emphasis on our unique print collections. The position works collaboratively with other library faculty and staff in the creation, organization, and maintenance of metadata, and provides guidance and training on best practices. Reports to the Head of Acquisitions & Metadata Services and collaborates with the Library's Special Collections and FIT Archive unit.
Essential Functions:
Cataloging Collections Oversight
- Provide oversight on cataloging practices; perform and advise on best practices for all types of cataloging.
- Perform original and complex copy cataloging for monographs, serials, and Special Collections and College Archives (SPARC) materials (e.g. fashion illustration collections, scrapbooks, college archives).
- Provide oversight and documentation of archival cataloging and processing projects to ensure effective metadata creation, authority control and system integration across diverse collections.
- Maintain currency with emerging current national and international standards for cataloging, archival description and metadata.
- Develop and implement reporting strategies within the library services platform and other management systems; produce reports in response to specific requests.
- Manage and delegate gift book donations, overseeing initial donor correspondence, vetting and acceptance workflows, and final cataloging into the collection.
Cataloging Managerial Oversight
- Conduct training and provide oversight; guidance to library, perform copy cataloging or metadata activities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain workflows, procedures, and documentation for cataloging/metadata management.
Institutional Flexibility & Special Assignments
- Cross-Library Work: In addition to regular library service desk assignments, service at any library service desk for coverage is required as needed. This position may work in various capacities outside of the home unit to accomplish library-wide initiatives.
Liaison, Outreach, and Collection Cultivation
- Serve as the primary contact for assigned academic departments, providing guidance on specialized resources.
- Select materials and evaluate resources (databases, periodicals, research materials) in assigned subject areas.
- Actively participate in marketing library services and creating connections with classroom faculty and student organizations.
- Lead relevant library teams, task forces, and ad hoc groups as needed to achieve unit or library-wide goals.
- Drive the planning, implementation, and execution of specialized projects, ensuring alignment with the library's strategic priorities.
- Participate in mentoring programs for new librarians and colleagues across the library, sharing subject matter expertise.
Faculty Responsibilities and Professional Development
- Participate in library-wide meetings, governance, and campus-wide committees to support the College Strategic Plan.
- Maintain active membership in professional organizations and stay current with trends in pedagogy, technology, and library services.
Special Assignments
- Duties vary depending on time-sensitive initiatives. These may include activities such as new outreach campaigns to academic departments, development of peer training, data migration, web content development, information architecture, grant proposals, and others as needed.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years post-credentialed professional experience in cataloging and metadata.
- Demonstrated experience with original and complex copy cataloging and applicable cataloging and metadata standards.
- Experience with authority control, controlled vocabularies, and metadata tools such as OCLC Connexion, MarcEdit, and OpenRefine.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Special Collections, archives, rare books, or other unique collections.
- Experience developing cataloging workflows, documentation, and training.
- Experience with library systems, metadata projects, or data migration.
- Experience working in Alma/Primo VE.

The final starting salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience; Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) Salary Schedules pgs. 73-74.
Instructor: $69,346.37 - $80,793.82
Assistant Professor: $80,736.40 - $118,984.88
Associate Professor: $94,498.31 - $142,271.78
Professor: $115,232.32 - $173,403.37
Work Schedule
Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-4pm, one day per week will be 11am-6pm; in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
