Texas-Mexico Chapter Meeting: Oaxaca
Please join the Texas-Mexico Chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America for its fall meeting and tour from November 9-14, 2026 in Oaxaca, Mexico! Registration is available to all members of ARLIS/NA and the ARLIS/NA Texas-Mexico Chapter, as well as affiliate organizations, related professions, and interested guests.
This gathering will bring together art librarians, visual resources professionals, artists, book vendors, and publishers for collegial exchange in a setting renowned for its deep artistic traditions, historic architecture, and living Indigenous cultures. Oaxaca offers a rich context for conversations around:
- Indigenous and community-based art practices
- Craft, textiles, material culture, and book arts
- Colonial and contemporary Latin American art
- Archives, libraries, and documentation related to visual culture
- Local museums, artist studios, booksellers, and cultural collections
Oaxaca is an important cultural capital of Mexico with many arts-related libraries, special collections, and archives. It is also an active center for art and crafts, as well as book publishing. It has been increasingly recognized for its culinary offerings, and is home to 90% of Mexico’s mezcal production.
The streets and architecture in Oaxaca are of a human scale and invite walking and exploring, especially in the Centro area where most of the tour venues are located.

* Included in the registration are entrance fees, transit for the excursion day, and guide-translator services throughout the meeting and tour. Meals are not included.

Lodging and Travel
You are responsible for booking and paying for your lodging. Hotel options will be added to the annual meeting page on the chapter site but, generally speaking, lodging at all price levels is available, preferably in the Centro (historic center) area.
You are responsible for booking and paying for your flight and any ground transportation except for the planned excursion day.
If you are not a citizen of Mexico, you are responsible for having a valid passport through the entire duration of your stay.
