MLD Pop-Up - “Library Everywhere”: Creating Space for Library and Archival Collection Materials Throughout the Museum

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is undertaking a major expansion and renovation of existing public spaces that will roll out in phases throughout 2025-26. As part of a new strategic vision and plan for the library and archives, collection materials will be on view in every permanent collection gallery, and hands-on library engagements will appear throughout the museum, including two satellite library locations in new studio and community gathering spaces. Abigail Guay, Director of Library and Archives at Crystal Bridges, will share how she built institutional support for a sustained commitment to showcasing library and archival materials, how her team negotiated new workflows, and how others can benefit from lessons learned.
