Professional Bio

Zulay has been a Specialist in the Photography Collection (special collections) at the New York Public Library for over a decade. She catalogs original photographs, provides reference services for the Collection, and organizes public classes and class visits. She also coordinates conservation work for the materials and oversees all the new acquisition documents. Additionally, she provides reference services for the Art & Architecture Collection. She has an MA in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) and an MLIS from CUNY Queens College.

At the ARLIS/NA 2022 conference in Chicago, Zulay facilitated a roundtable discussion titled, "Confronting Racist or Derogatory Titles in Digitized Photographs". At the ARLIS/NA 2018 conference in NYC, she hosted a workshop titled, "How many photographic processes can you identify? Photographic Processes Identification, Preservation and Other Collection Management Tips Workshop from the Photography Collection at the New York Public Library".

At The NYPL, Zulay is on the Cross-Divisional Aeon Working Group, Public Services Council, Research Libraries Conference Committee (2025), REACT (Research Libraries Emergency Action for Collections Team), and the Steering Committee for the AANHPI Culture Club (an Employee Resource/ERG Group).
