Professional Bio

Over her 30 plus years as a librarian, Maryhelen Jones has held professional positions in academic, government and special, libraries in Mt Pleasant, Michigan; Washington, DC; Houston; Los Angeles; Tallahassee; Santa Fe, and Albuquerque, NM.

Maryhelen initially joined ARLIS/NA in the mid-1980 when she lived in Texas and was a museum docent at the Museum of Fine Arts and the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston. In 1985, she became the Chief Information Specialist at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles.

Throughout her career, she has held professional association leadership positions at the division and chapter levels in ACRL, especially its Distance Learning Section and the Special Libraries Association.
She retired in 2012 after seven years as the Library Manager at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Technical Library at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM.

She has served on the ARLIS/NA Membership Committee, the Development Committee, the Professional Development Committee and is currently serving on its Travel Awards Subcommittee. She has also been the Retirement SIG Co-Moderator.

Maryhelen received her undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University. She has two Masters Degrees: a MLS from the University of North Carolina and an MS in Political Science from East Carolina University. She has completed additional graduate level Art History courses at Kent State University.

In retirement, she has established several blogs dealing with horology and the luxury watch industry from both a brand and design perspective.
