The Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) is pleased to announce that Jade Finlinson is the winner of the Gerd Muehsam Award for 2016.

The award was established in 1980 to celebrate graduate student papers and projects in art librarianship, and to honor the memory of Gerd Muehsam (1913-1979), a distinguished scholar, teacher, and art bibliographer. Muehsam’s dedication to ARLIS/NA was a lasting inspiration to her colleagues and students.

The recognition and a prize of $500, along with $300 for travel expenses, conference registration, and Society membership, were presented on February 8th, at the Convocation ceremony during ARLIS/NA’s 45th annual conference, held in New Orleans.

Finlinson delivered a talk based on her paper, “Exploring Community Memory and Multiple Understandings of Landscape: Activating UCLA's Department of Geography Air Photo Archives," in the session “New Voices in the Profession.”

Finlinson is an MLIS candidate at the UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies. She prepared the paper for a course in “Archives, Records and Memory” under Professor Anne Gilliland in early 2016.

Members of the ARLIS/NA Gerd Muehsam Award sub-committee members were: John Hagood (chair), Anne Simmons, Nancy Spiegel, Marsha Taichman, and Hollie Wilson.
