Charge

The SEI Advisory Group will advise the VRA and ARLIS/NA Boards on three to five year planning initiatives for the SEI.

In their final report, April 2007, the SEI Long Term Planning Task Force recommended that VRA and ARLIS/NA form an advisory group for the Summer Educational Institute (SEI).

The Advisory Group will:
  • focus on long term issues for SEI, rather than issues of planning and implementing the annual program
  • advise the ARLIS/NA and VRA Boards* on 3-5 year planning initiatives for SEI
  • suggest future venues for SEI, from 2010 forward
  • receive input from the SEI Implementation Team
  • direct its advice and recommendations to the VRA and ARLIS/NA Boards: the Boards of ARLIS/NA and VRA will make final decisions regarding advice and recommendations from the SEI Advisory Group

The Advisory Group members should start by reviewing the final report from the SEI Long Term Planning Task Force.

One of the first tasks will be to seek proposals for and recommend a venue for SEI for 2010. Note that this task has been handled by the SEI Implementation Team in the past. The two Boards will make a final decision once proposals have been received and the Advisory Group makes its recommendation.

Beyond that, the Advisory Group will make recommendations, engage in discussion about these recommendations with the Boards, and move forward in accordance with the Boards' decision to implement (or not) the recommendations.

The Advisory Group may establish an ad hoc group of experts or consultants who represent specialized areas, such as finances, education, et cetera, to assist them in developing planning initiatives.

*The Advisory Group should be aware that in September 2008, all responsibilities for the SEI will be transferred from the VRA to the VRA Foundation. The SEI Implementation Team will report to and work with the VRA Foundation from that point forward. The VRA Foundation will appoint the next VRA Foundation SEI Co-Chair and will handle the finances for SEI.
