Meetings:
The
Chapter's spring meeting took place during the Annual ARLIS/NA conference in
Baltimore. Sixteen members
attended. B.J. Irvine presented a summary of a CIC (Committee on Institutional
Cooperation) Art Libraries survey. The
chapter had an active discussion regarding the establishment of a chapter travel
award, proposed during previous meetings. Details discussed were: the purpose,
amount, administration, frequency, and language (a final draft of the award was
later approved by the membership via a mail ballot).
The proposal to bring the ARLIS/NA conference to Indianapolis in the
future was also brought up and supported by the membership.
The
fall meeting was held jointly with the Midwest Art Catalogers Discussion Group (MACDG)
and hosted by Judy Dyki at the
Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI; fifteen members attended.
The day began with a presentation about Cranbrook's history and its
archive collections. Members then participated in a guided tour of the Saarinen
House and had the opportunity to visit the library and Art Museum.
The day ended with the meeting of the Midwest Catalogers Discussion
Group.
During
the business meeting, the nominating committee presented their recommendations
for next year's leadership and opened the floor to any other nominations.
Suzy Frechette, Midwest Regional Representative, presented her report.
Members once again discussed the possibility of hosting an Annual
conference in Indianapolis in 2007 or 2008. It was announced that the newly
established William C. Bunce/ARLIS Midstates Travel Award would be granted for
the first time to a chapter member attending the ARLIS/NA conference in New York
City in 2004. A committee was
formed to oversee the process.
Other
activities:
Travel
Award--Thanks to Gordie Morey, a portion of the William C. Bunce Memorial Fund
was given to the Chapter in order to create the William C. Bunce/ARLIS Midstates
Travel Award. The donation
consisted of $2,500 of which $250 will be awarded annually and matched by the
chapter for a period of ten years. The donation will be kept in a separate bank
account.
Membership--
In order to increase chapter membership and participation, a letter of
invitation to join the chapter was sent to potential and former members from our
region in March of 2003.
Issues
for the Board:
The
chapter voted to donate $400 to the welcome party in New York.
