Executive Board activities
Attended the pre-conference and
post-conference board meetings in Saint Louis, Missouri, and the mid-year board
meeting in New York City. Participated in Board discussions, deliberations, and
motions.
At the behest of the ARLIS/NA
President, worked with the ARLIS/NA Vice-President on a proposal to restructure
the existing awards committees.
Served as Board liaison to the
George Wittenborn Committee and the Cataloging Advisory Committee.
Served as Board liaison to the
West Region chapters: ARLIS/Southern California, ARLIS/Northern California,
ARLIS/Mountain West, and ARLIS/Northwest (also represented by the Canadian
Representative).
Committee activities
George Wittenborn Committee
Attended the committee's
business meeting in Saint Louis and met with the committee chair. At the
post-conference board meeting, brought the committee's concerns to the Board.
The committee continued to examine issues related to the award guidelines and
small press publications throughout 2002.
Cataloging Advisory
Committee
Attended the committee's
business meeting in Saint Louis and monitored and participated in e-mail
correspondence among the committee members. The committee was very active in
2002, their chief activity being the drafting of detailed guidelines for the
cataloging of exhibition publications.
Chapter activities
ARLIS/Mountain West
Attended the ARLIS/Mountain
West chapter lunch/business meeting in Saint Louis, and the chapter's fall
business meeting in Cody, Wyoming. Submitted columns for the chapter newsletter,
The Mountain Ledger, and monitored the chapter's electronic mailing list
for issues relevant to the Board. The chapter is small but enthusiastic, and
hosted a terrific chapter conference in Cody. The chapter formed a Membership
Committee, and continues to examine the challenges of a small chapter with such
a large geographical distribution. The chapter has a full slate of officers,
with Secretary/Treasurer a combined office.
ARLIS/Northern California
Met with the chapter Chair and
Vice-Chair in Oakland, California, in June, and attended the chapter's fall
business meeting at Stanford University in November. The chapter also met in
Sonoma, California, in April. Monitored the electronic mailing list (which is
open to both California chapters) for issues relevant to the Board. The chapter
continues to look for innovative ways to recruit new members. The primary
challenge for this chapter is finding members willing to serve as officers.
ARLIS/Northwest
Attended the ARLIS/Northwest-ARLIS/Canada
joint mini-conference in Banff, Alberta, in May, and the ARLIS/Northwest fall
business meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, in December. The success of the
Banff retreat led to an initiative undertaken by the ARLIS/Northwest
Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect to host a joint chapter meeting in 2003 in Portland,
Oregon. The Board approved special funding of $500 for this joint meeting, and
all of the West Region chapters will participate. The dates have been set for
July 31-Aug. 3. Finding members willing to serve as officers and dwindling
chapter participation from the Seattle area are issues the chapter is facing.
ARLIS/Southern California
Attended the chapter's summer
business meeting in San Diego, California, in July. Submitted column for the
chapter newsletter, Canvas. The chapter also met in Culver City, California, in
November. The chapter is doing well and has a full slate of officers.
Issues for the Board
No issues for the Board at this
time.
