Report:

Sponsorship at the First Joint Conference of ARLIS/NA and VRA (and ARLIS/NA’s 30th Conference), Saint Louis, MO.:

As has become standard practice, sessions, seminars, and workshops no longer need Divisional sponsorship.  ADSL members were involved, however, in the following activities at the 2002 conference:

·        Workshop IX: “Public Speaking Without Fear & Trembling”   Workshop proposed by Paul Glassman, New York School of Interior Design (March 22, 2002, 1-5 pm)

·         Seminar I: “Me, Myself and I: the Solo Professional”
Moderators: Eumie Imm-Stroukoff, Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, and Paul Glassman, New York School of Interior Design  (March 23, 2002, 2-3:30 pm)

·        Session VIII: “Hey Now, What’s that Sound, Anybody Know What’s Going on?” Moderator: Henrietta Zielinski, School of the Art Institute of Chicago  (March 25, 2002, 11am-1pm)

·        Seminar V:  “Is a Picture Really Worth a Thousand Words?  Information Literacy and the Visual Learner,”  Moderator: Paul Glassman, New York School of Interior Design (March 25, 2002, 3:30-5 pm)

Activities of ADSL members in the upcoming 31st Conference of ARLIS/NA Conference in Baltimore, MD:

·         Panel Session XVII:  Nordic Expeditions: Exploring Art Information Resources for Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden,” Organizer and Moderator:  Susana Tejada, Albright-Knox Art Gallery (Tuesday, March 25, 2003, 10:30 am-12 noon)

·         Point/Counterpoint Session XX:  “The Pursuit of Parity: Librarians, Academe & Faculty Status,” Organizers and Moderators:  Paul Glassman, New York School of Interior Design; Ruth Wallach, University of Southern California  (Tuesday, March 25, 1-2:30 pm)

·         Distribution of Occasional Paper #14, The Library and Accreditation Process in Design Disciplines: Best Practices, by Jeanne M. Brown, Paul Glassman, and Janine Henri

ARLIS/NA Strategic Plan Action Items:

·         Creation of a roster of art and design schools willing to accept unpaid interns (goal I.c. Internship Roster)  Questions were raised at last year’s meeting as to how to update the roster.  Status:  ADSL part completed 2001 PDC part still pending  and updating issue still pending.

·         Provision for a set of guidelines to assist ADSL libraries to propose poster sessions for the annual conference  (goal II.d. Guidelines for Poser Session Proposals) Status:  Still pending

·         Creation of a clearinghouse of shared statistics for art and design school librarians (goal II.d.)  Status: Still pending

·         Creation of a roster of ADSL members willing to serve as consultants during accreditation processes.  (goal I.e.)  Status: Still pending

·         Use of the ADSL Website to recommend print and electronic information  Elinor Nacheman has used two Update columns to do this during 2002.  Status: Use of ADSL website for this purpose needs to be addressed.
