VRA Co-Chair, a new Co-Chair will be appointed.
Mary Wassermann is ARLIS/NA
Co-Chair duties as of August
The remaining task force
members are listed at the end of the report.
Previous Reports
A progress report was submitted
in August 2002 to the ARLIS/NA Executive Board.
A press release announcing the
postponement of the Institute was released in Fall 2002.
Other documents as listed below
were submitted to ARLIS/NA Board
Charge:
To
develop an infrastructure and curriculum for a week-long summer institute of
continuing education in image collection/visual resources management; to
negotiate instructors and teaching materials for the institute; and to arrange
its first venue and program schedule at Rice University (Houston, Texas) for
early summer 2004.
The work of the JETF began in
earnest with the ARLIS/NA and VRA Joint Conference in St. Louis, 2002.
Thus far, the Task Force has written a Charge which was approved by both
Executive Boards, developed a Project Plan, Timeline, and Core Curriculum.
In Fall of 2002, the initial first session of the Institute, hosted by
Rice University, was changed from July of 2003 to June or July of 2004.
The JETF has completed Phase 1
of the Project Plan, Project Launch and Curriculum Development; and parts
2A –2B of Phase 2, Budget Development. It is poised to start part 2C of Phase 2, Investigation of
outside funding possibilities and to begin working on initial tasks of the
remaining project plan, Phases 3-7.
At this point, changing the
size of the JETF from its original twelve members to a smaller group (or groups)
is being considered to more effectively implement the remaining work phases.
John Taormina, the current Co-Chair for VRA will be stepping down from
his post and Elisa Lanzi, VRA President, is recruiting for a replacement.
A small gathering of Task Force
members met with members of both Executive Boards in Baltimore at the ARLIS/NA
conference in March 2003. Among
discussion of many issues related to the Summer Institute, it was agreed that a
formal agreement between both organizations be established.
A report of the Baltimore meeting was written by ARLIS/NA Co-Chair Mary
Wassermann, which outlines other parts of the discussion.
Issues for the Executive
Board
1. Appointment of new VRA
Co-Chair
2. Board input on implementing
the remaining phases of the JETF
3. Formal agreement between
both organizations on structure and remaining phases of
Institute.
4. Suggestions and support for
funding possibilities.
