Activities

1.      Improvements to the Publications section on the AWS Publications page on AWS updated and improved including: 

New  publications order form

Table of contents for Art Documentation added

Art Doc reviews published on AWS prior to print publication

Art Doc reviews on AWS made searchable by author and title

2.      ARLIS/NA Update

Testing of PWNewsmaker software by Update editor Linda Zieper led to committee’s decision not to change the current format of publication for reasons outlined to the Board

New masthead incorporating the new ARLIS/NA logo was approved by the Board and first published in the February issue of Update.

3.  Art Documentation

New cover for Art Doc investigated to incorporate new ARLIS/NA logo and colors (pending)

Reviews and Table of Contents added to AWS

Spring and Fall, 2002 issues produced

Cumulative index issue investigated and approved but committee decided Library Literature indexing is sufficient

Annual indexer appointed for volume 21: Kathy Corcoran.     

4.   Occasional Papers

Decision made not to reprint OP #1, 2, and 7; appropriate changes made to Publications order form on AWS and Publications brochure

Published OP #13: Library Instruction for Students in Design Disciplines: Scenarios, Exercises and Techniques

Board approval of OP #14: The Library and the Accreditation Process in Design Disciplines

Proposal submitted for OP #15: Ancient Greek Costume Studies

5.      Facilities Standards

Board approved the committee establish a group to produce an addendum to the existing Facilities Standards to address new technology and publish both on AWS and in print (pending)

Chair has contacted Libraries Unlimited who has approved the original publication be reprinted on the AWS

6.      Board initiated activities:

Publications brochure edited

“Editor, Administrative Publications” position established and position description written

Contributed to discussion of President’s restructuring of the Society

Position descriptions updated /written for all editors (pending)

Goals for 2003-2004

Appoint an annual indexer for Art Documentation, volume 22

Appoint an editor for the Facilities Standards revision

Investigate a vehicle for timely publishing of Web-based articles on the AWS

Strategic Plan Action Items

1. Strengthen Occasional Papers (OP) program by establishing specifications including style sheet and design templates, initiate regular promotion of all in-print OPs, and financial analysis on proposed new OPs. (I F)

Status: Much has been accomplished by Paul Glassman this year including substantial financial analysis and budget proposals for each new OP, updated publications order forms on AWS and promotion of all OPs through the AWS.

2. Create a proactive plan for producing more ARLIS/NA publications electronically as downloadable files as well as Web-accessible sites. (I F)

Status: The committee continues to investigate issues involved with publishing on Web vs. in print and has substantially updated the Publications page on the AWS.

3. Create guidelines and procedures for publishing pre-conference program and session summaries, as well as posting conference individual papers, session reports and full conference proceedings. (I F)

Status: Conference publications are not part of this committee’s responsibilities at this time.
