Meetings:

The Spring 2002 meeting was held May 31, 2002 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, hosted by Alba Fernández.  There were 14 members in attendance.  The program included a tour of the exhibition A Fabric of Moroccan Life; a discussion regarding fundraising for libraries by Cynthia McBurney of The Indiana University Foundation; and a tour of the architecture of Columbus, Indiana.

During the business meeting Sonja Staum-Kuniej explained that, because of the lack of a succeeding Chair, she had volunteered to serve as chair for a second term (as approved by the membership in the ballot sent out on November 2001).  Secretary/Treasurer, Kitty Jansen discussed how she revised and updated the mailing list of Midstates members which is now also available on the chapter website.  Attendees had an active discussion regarding ideas for promoting recruitment and member participation in chapter activities. The Midwest Representative and Treasurer's report were also given.

ARLIS/Midstates and VRA Midwest held a joint Fall meeting, which took place on November 1, 2002 at The Northwestern University campus in Evanston, IL.  The meeting was co-hosted by Russ Clement, Head of the Art Collection, Julie Marchenko, Curator of Slides and Photographs, and Virginia Kerr, Digital Technology Librarian.  Activities included were: a tour of the exhibition The Last Expression: Art and Auschwitz at the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art; visits to the art library and Art History slide collections; and presentations by ARLIS members David Austin and Virginia Kerr.  Approximately 18 Midstates members attended the meeting.

The business meeting was a brief one.  Because Chair Sonja Staum-Kuniej could not attend due to other responsibilities, the Chair position was transferred early to Alba Fernández.  Reports were given by Secretary/Treasurer Kitty Jansen and by Midwest Representative Ursula Kolmstetter.  The membership discussed the idea of holding only one regional chapter meeting every year (in the Fall) in order to increase attendance to chapter meetings.  Members also agreed to meet informally during the annual conference in the Spring of 2003.

Other activities:

Chapter membership-- During the past few years it was noted that membership had decreased.  In order to recruit new members and increase attendance of the current membership, an invitation to the Fall meeting and chapter membership forms were mailed to art librarians in the region. A list of potential members was produced by Secretary/Treasurer Kitty Jansen.

Chapter website--The chapter website, maintained by Erika Dowell, now contains all Midstates documents including the updated bylaws and past meeting minutes as well as an updated members list and future meeting locations.

The chapter agreed to donate $400 to the welcome party in Baltimore.
