Brief  narrative:

For the 2002 Joint Conference, the Headquarters decided to not follow the sponsorship practice due to a predictable large amount of proposals from both the ARLIS/NA and the VRA members.  The Cataloging Section did not have to sponsor any session.  The Moderator sent a call for papers to both listerves indicating topics of interest expressed at the previous Section’s meeting.  Out of five separate proposals discussed with Sherman Clarke (NYU), Gillian Currie (NGA, Australia), Daniel L. Nolting (Yale), Hans Zonnevijlle (NFI, The Netherlands), Sara Harrington (Rutgers), only one finalized in: Session X, “Stretching the Mold: Standard Cataloging and Special Materials”, proposed and moderated by Sherman Clarke, NYU.

The “Update” Editor wrote the Cataloging Section column in three of the six ARLIS/NA UPDATE issues.  He also posted monthly lists of new art and architecture subject headings to ARLIS-L.

The Section’s webpage editor enhanced the page with a summary of “the changes in art subject headings recently adopted by the Library of Congress.”

The Cataloging Discussion Group, NY Chapter, posted the minutes of its monthly meetings to ARLIS-L.  Other chapters organized similar discussion groups and started posting their announcements and minutes to ARLIS-L.

In progress:

Update of the Section’s roster.

Create a roster of libraries and visual resources collections that support internships in art librarianship (Strategic Plan I B).

Discuss linking NYTSL (New York Technical Services Librarians) webpage to ARLIS/NA (Strategic Plan IV E, I G).
