Strategic Plan Action Items: Sections and
Round Table Action Items
Divisions, Sections, and Round Tables actively promote the knowledge and subject expertise of the members they represent. Each group is focused on a unique aspect of art librarianship, and therefore has connections with a variety of peer institutions and knowledge of specialized vendors as well as collections. Each Division, Section and Round Table can help achieve the goals and objectives of the strategic plan by focusing on the following action steps.
Item #1. Create a roster of libraries and visual resources collections that support internships in art librarianship. (I B)
*A new web site was created for the Architecture Section and it was mounted and is maintained on the UC Berkeley Library server. There is a list of links to libraries and collections related to architecture.
Item #2. Become active and influential participants in the accreditation process
*Janine Henri has participated on the AASL-ARLIS/NA Task Force on NAAB Accreditation Standard for Architecture Libraries. She reported at the 2001 conference on the progress and will again report at 2002.
*In addition, Jeanne Brown established a task force to work on ways to collect uniform statistics which are used by the Accreditation Teams. She will report at the Architecture Section Business Meeting in St. Louis.
Item #3. Working closely with the AWS Administrative Board, develop procedures to ensure that the ARLIS/NA website provides references and/or links to useful print and electronic art and interdisciplinary information resources reflective of each Division, Section, or Round Table. (IV E, I G)
*We established a web site this year - and will continue to maintain and expand the information on it. The Architecture Section also has a listserv, frequently used by members to share information.
5. Work with the professional development committee to expand mentoring program to new Division, Section, and Round Table members. (I G)
*We are not notified when new members join the architecture section - so have no way to contact them or mentor them. I requested a list of architecture section members in June, which I received but that was only on special request.
Item #6. Contribute to the establishment of professional development and continuing education programs of the Society. (II A)
*The architecture Section is sponsoring at least three sessions at the 2002, St. Louis conference.
9. Continue to promote efforts of librarians who teach. Promote dissemination of instructional materials through LOEX Clearinghouse for Library Instruction. (I D)
*The architecture Section supports this item with its web site by members and the public.
Sarah McCleskey submitted 2 columns for the Update newsletter. Our Architecture Section discussion list, ARCHSEC-L continues to be maintained and frequently used. The web site is up and is being maintained.
Issues for the Executive Board:
It would be useful to have section memberships listed in the directory -- and to have the sections notified of new members.
