PUBLISHED

Occasional Paper No. 12, Collection Development Policies for Libraries & Visual Collections in the Arts (ISBN 0-942740-17-3, ISSN 0730-7160), compiled by Ann Baird Whiteside, Pamela Born, and Adeane Alpert Bregman, was published in time for the 28th annual conference in Pittsburgh. It contains paradigmatic policy statements from academic, architecture, museum, and art school libraries, as well as from visual collections. Tabular comparative analyses by library type of budget, collection size, circulation, and staffing are included. Consisting of 186 pages and spiral-bound, the paper features a print and Web bibliography.

PROPOSED

Alexandra de Luise submitted an occasional paper prospectus for Periodicals in Review: A Finding Aid to Sources and Reviews of Recent Art Periodicals and Art Indexes. Kathy Corcoran, Evalyn Stone, and Carol S. Terry served as readers and evaluators of the prospectus, recommending it to the committee for publication. The publications committee agreed that it merited publication and passed its recommendation onto the ARLIS/NA executive board for its approval. The publications committee had included expenses for this paper in its 2001 budget request. The executive board did not approve the proposed publication.

PROCEDURE

I produced a set of guidelines for occasional papers authors. The guidelines address format and style.

PROMOTION

To promote the new occasional paper, in addition to the other publications, I revised and re-issued the publications brochure. It was distributed at the registration table at the 28th annual conference in Pittsburgh. Additional copies were deposited with Adler Droz Incorporated.
