The Standards Committee jointly proposed a workshop on the use of controlled vocabularies appropriate to arts disciplines with the Visual Resources Division. Applying Added Value: Accessing Visual Information through the Use of Structured Vocabularies was accepted and is scheduled for the 29th Annual conference in Los Angeles. The Accreditation of Art Libraries: Benefit or Burden?, jointly submitted by Art & Design School Library Division; Standards Committee; Architecture Section was also accepted and is scheduled for the LA Conference.
Last year there was a question related to ARLIS/NA's participation in the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and its interest to take on greater responsibility. There seemed to be interest in ARLIS/NA's support in the increased role of NISO, but there was also a serious question about the possibility of increasing its representation dues in the standards organization. It has now been determined that NISO would not take on duties in question, and it was affirmed by NISO headquarters that even if that action was to take place in the future ARLIS/NA's dues would not increase.
NISO standards considered last year included ANSI/NISO Z39.82-200X Title Pages for Conference Publications (passed), ANSI/NISO Z39.82-200X Title Pages for Conference Publications (passed), Z39.85-200x Dublin Core Metadata Element Set (DCMES) (passed at the time but under reconsideration - ballots due by March 1), and DIS 15489 Records management (not announced)
