From the President10 April 2012Dear members of ARLIS/NA, It was wonderful to see so many of you in Toronto at our 40th annual conference. I heartily concur with our past president Jon Evans' report last week that the conference was a stellar event on every level. The success of the conference reflects the dedicated work of numerous people throughout a year or more of planning and execution. Many volunteers from throughout the organization created an outstanding conference planning team who worked tirelessly to produce an event meeting the high standards our members have come to expect. ARLIS/NA and its programs will benefit throughout the year, thanks to a strong show of support by exhibitors and sponsors at the conference. For those of you who were unable to join us in Canada this year, conference proceedings to be released later this spring will allow you to tap into the great content and variety of meetings, sessions, and workshops that took place there. Another critical component to the success of the conference was the team of three staff members from ARLIS/NA Headquarters. Although much of their work was behind-the-scenes, the team was in Toronto to provide around-the clock support before, during, and after the conference. While the annual conference is the largest event of our society, work by and for ARLIS/NA members is ongoing throughout the year. The ARLIS/NA Headquarters team at Technical Enterprises Inc. (TEI), our association management company, is in place to support the needs of our members. The crucial support provided to the society by headquarters staff is funded by a portion of your membership dues and registration fees. Please consult the headquarters page on the ARLIS/NA Website to best direct your requests for assistance. A search for a new association and conference manager is underway; an announcement will be posted promptly to ARLIS-L when the search is concluded. During this interim period, Karen Olsen, Association Specialist, will be our primary contact for queries previously addressed to Chris Roper. I look forward to serving ARLIS/NA as your president, and to being in touch with you all throughout the coming year. Please stay tuned for a video message from me that will appear soon. At any time, I welcome your thoughts about the programs and services of our society. With best regards, Deborah Kempe, President, ARLIS/NA Top of Page |
