Update on North American Lantern Slide Survey (NALSS)

To date, a number of institutions have completed Phase I of the survey, which is still available via both the ARLIS/NA and the Visual Resources Association (VRA) home pages. Phase II, as originally conceived, is not possible with the survey's current input structure, and has not progressed as far as we would have wished. Phase II was intended as an opportunity for all holders of lantern slide collections to learn more about their own collections by reviewing the responses of the other participants. We realize that critical and useful information is not displaying for the benefit of all the respondents. In particular, the most prevalent vendors, the names of colorists, unique subject holdings, and special donor collections are not available for our review online. (We're not able to easily show who has already completed the survey, either.) The ARLIS/NA Executive Board and Publications Committee chair, Jack Robertson, are aware of this problem and are working with ARLIS/NA Headquarters staff to resolve it in one manner or another. The survey is currently slated to be available online for continued comment and input until April 1, 2006.

If you have not already done so but would like to participate in the survey, please visit the ARLIS/NA Web site or follow the link for the survey at the bottom of the VRA home page.

Changes in the VRD Listserv

The Visual Resources Division (VRD) listserv has a new home! With thanks to the Information Technology Services department at New York University, the VRD listserv moved in early summer to arlis-vrd@forums.nyu.edu. If you would like to join the listserv, please contact current VRD moderator Jenni Rodda, at jenni.rodda@nyu.edu.

Meeting Reminder

We have reserved space for a ninety-minute division meeting at the Banff conference. Please let us know if you will be able to attend! Current VRD officers are Jenni Rodda, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, moderator; Maryly Snow, University of California, Berkeley, vice-moderator; Sarah Goldstein, Vassar College, co-vice-moderator. Daniel Nolting maintains the division's Web page, and Jenni Rodda and Sherman Clarke co-own the VRD listserv.
