ARLIS/Central Plains Chapter NewsSubmitted by M. J. Poehler / posted: 28 March 2005In September, a milestone for the Central Plains chapter was achieved when the chapter web site went live at http://arliscp.library.okstate.edu/. Thanks go to Susan Bobo of Oklahoma State University for this achievement and for her commitment to the upkeep of the site. The chapter's fall meeting, planned for October in Oklahoma City, had to be cancelled. Unfortunately, the availability of the speaker and venue were at odds with most members' calendars. When it became clear that attendance would be low, the meeting was cancelled and chapter business, including election of officers for 2005, was conducted by mail. New officers for 2005-06 are: chair, Susan Bobo, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK; vice chair/chair elect: Tom Young, Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa, OK; secretary/treasurer: Clare Vasquez, St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis, MO; newsletter editor: Ellen Petraits, Washington University, St. Louis, MO. Tom Young received this year's travel award to help with the expense of attending the annual conference in Houston, TX in April. Tom will represent the Central Plains chapter at the leadership breakfast along with Susan Bobo. Plans to hold the Spring 2005 chapter meeting in Omaha, NE have been changed as well. The chapter now plans to meet May 19-21 in Kansas City, MO. Suzy Frechette, Midwest regional representative, reported news from the executive board via e-mail. Suzy shared the welcome news that the board authorized $500 to help defray costs of the Central Plains/Mountain West Joint Chapter Meeting planned for October 2005 in Santa Fe, NM. Programming for the joint chapter meeting will include time at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and Research Center as well as the Institute of American Indian Arts. Top of Page |
