ARLIS/Texas-Mexico Chapter NewsSubmitted by Elizabeth Schaub / posted: 8 February 2005Chapter members have been hard at work planning the Society's thirty-third annual conference in Houston, April 1-6, 2005. The recent chapter meeting, held in Houston October 21-23, 2004, afforded a wonderful opportunity for a preview of some of what the Society's membership has to look forward to during the upcoming conference. Attendees were treated to a number of activities focusing on unique aspects of Houston's landscape. Among them were a walking tour of the Museum District led by architectural historian Stephen Fox, a walking tour of downtown architecture led by Margaret Culbertson and a sunset tour of the Live Oak Friends Meeting House. Stephen Fox will be leading three tours during the annual conference and Margaret Culbertson will be leading the Houston Heights portion of the Glenwood Cemetery and Houston Heights tour; a tour of the Live Oak Friends Meeting House is also scheduled. Please visit the conference web site for more details: http://www.arlis-txmx.org/arlisna2005/. Following an informative and very well attended Conference Planning Advisory Committee Meeting, Kerry Inman, representing the Inman Gallery, and Clinton Willour, curator, Galveston Arts Center discussed Collecting and Exhibiting Contemporary Art in Houston. The session, organized by Jon Evans, took place at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Inman and Willour outlined their personal experience as collectors as well as their role within their respective organizations and discussed how they promoted regional and emerging artists and their work giving attendees a unique view into the artsscene they described. The chapter's business meeting on Saturday, October 23 was extremely productive. The minutes are available for perusal in volume 30, no. 3 of The Medium posted on the chapter's website: http://www.arlis-txmx.org/medium/. Top of Page |
