Interlibrary
Loan Discussion Group

Libraries Society of North America 29th Annual Conference, Los
Angeles, CA
Fourteen people attended the discussion and it was fairly helpful, as always, just from the standpoint of shared concerns, nuts and bolts in the form of useful tips based on experience, and suggestions for future sessions. The agenda covered lending policies, a possible code of conduct for borrowers (how to monitor loans; enforce regulations regarding photocopying, packaging, etc.), international borrowing and lending, shipping practices, insurance, training, RLG's ILL Manager software, and the use of ARIEL. We probably could have talked more, but time was up and people were getting weary of sitting.
John Hagood, of the MFA, Houston, will be the facilitator next year and he will be contacting the St. Louis people to get the session scheduled.
I still should state here that, since most ILL librarians also do reference, we respectfully request that in the future the ILL discussion group NOT be scheduled at the same time as the Reference and Information Services Section Meeting, which, unfortunately, has occurred at the last two conferences.
Most of those attending the one would have been interested in attending the other as well.
I enthusiastically add my own personal congratulations to you and to the other planners for having organized a very successful conference (and it was great to see Los Angeles at last -- I was not one bit disappointed!).
