Diversity
Committee
Minutes
March
31, 2001
Art
Libraries Society of North America 29th Annual Conference, Los
Angeles, CA
The current chairs are Eric Schwab and
Marilyn Russell-Bogle. Schwab and
Russell-Bogle will continue as co-chairs for the upcoming year. The meeting
began with an introduction of old and new members.
There were eleven members in attendance.
Lou Adrean represented Ted Goodman as the Board Liaison.
First on the agenda was the discussion of
the Diversity Committee website. Eric
thanked the members for their valuable input for the website.
Eric will be sending the web pages to Roberto Ferrari.
There was some discussion as to where archival material on the website
should be kept. There also seems to
be a policy of keeping all ARLIS/NA websites with similar graphics and the same
logo. The question was raised
“will it be okay for institutions to host websites for committees?”
A call was made again for anyone to add bibliographies and other
diversity resources to the website. Please
send to Eric.
Other issues brought forward for discussion
were: ADA compliance, space
planning, professional jobs available for entering librarians, minority
concerns, chapters and committee heads to include diversity issues in their
programming.
Upcoming program sessions for the St. Louis
conference were addressed. It was
decided to sponsor a session on the user issue, real spaces vs.virtual space for
web pages and universal usability. Hopefully
this will tie in with other ARLIS committees such as space planning,
reference/user services, standards, and library instruction.
Lauren Lessing and Lucie Stylianopoulos will develop the session and
submit the proposal by May 1.
The last item on the agenda was a discussion
of changes for the Strategic Plan. The only change was to amend any statements to state
“disability” instead of physical disability.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
