The primary agenda for this meeting was to elect a new moderator, and
to share experiences related to space planning. Attendees introduced themselves
and described their space-related concerns and interests.
Sonja Staum-Kuniej was elected Moderator.
Various projects, in progress or proposed, were discussed:
-
An article is needed relating to space planning for media storage.
-
A referral directory of people involved or experienced with space planning
projects, and consultants, has been initiated. Such a referral list would
make a useful resource on the ARLIS/NA website. There were few responses
to an earlier request on ARLIS-L for entries. Those present at this meeting
would be a good starting point for such a list. Information on projects,
consultants, architects should be sent to Sonja Staum-Kuniej - sstaumku@iupui.edu
– by the end of April. Entries should include a summary of the project,
name and contact information for the contributor, the size of the library,
names of consultants and architects, and materials available to share.
-
A space planning bibliography is underway, but not very far along. Citations
should be sent to Sonja. Ultimately this would also go on the website.
An annotated bibliography might also be suitable for Art Documentation.
-
A space planning workshop was proposed for the next conference. Carol Terry
volunteered to put together a proposal.
-
An article is needed on the nitty-gritty aspects of moving a collection.
-
An article is needed on compact shelving, and information on libraries
that have installed compact shelving would be useful.
