Claudia Hill, Co-Chair, opened the Diversity committee. She asked for members to attend the Ask ARLIS III session “Access to Access: Library Building Accessibility.” The new co-chairs were then introduced.
The new co-chairs for the Diversity Committee are Eric Schwab, Cornell University and Marilyn Russell-Bogle, University of Minnesota-Duluth. Eric conducted the rest of the meeting and Marilyn offered to be the recorder.
The committee then went over the Diversity and the ARLIS/NA Strategic Plan. The committee has completed strategic plans #81, 82, 83, and 85. A discussion ensued on strategic plan #84 and it was the consensus of the committee to keep #84.
A discussion about the Diversity Web page was held. It was agreed that the Diversity Web page should have direct access to expand and update the web page at any time. Lou Adrean will ask the Board about Web access.
The deadline for proposal session funding is May 1. Marilyn Russell-Bogle presented a program proposal, which deals with diversity, the title of the session she and Joan Benedetti propose is titled “Native American Art Now: Reflecting Contemporary Realities.” The Diversity committee agreed to financially sponsor this program proposal.
The Diversity committee agreed to send a letter to all ARLIS/NA committee chairs asking that diversity be promoted among the committees and their programs. The committee also believes that a presence is needed on the membership survey to access diversity interests.
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn Russell-Bogle
