Minutes of the Wittenborn Committee Business Meeting Held at the ARLIS/NA Conference, Philadelphia, PA, on Friday 6 March 1998 at 5:15 p.m. Marilyn Berger welcomed members of both the outgoing and incoming committees. The Wittenborn panel and portrait produced by the outgoing committee were discussed with a view to their future use. Messages from the Board were conveyed: members were reminded of the May 31st deadline for special funding requests, and of communication through Committee-L and Group-L. Members were also urged to attend the Leadership Breakfast, the Chapter Officers' Breakfast, and the Membership Meeting. They were reminded that the Management Calendar, Strategic Plan and Committee Guidelines were all available on the ARLIS/NA Website. Plans for the immediate award presentation at Convocation were reviewed. The schedule for the Exhibit Table was outlined by Daphne Dufresne, and a detailed plan for supervision of the exhibit was organized. Plans were made to arrange for authors to take part in book-signing during exhibit hours. The report on the activities of the 1997 committee was reviewed; members felt that considerable progress had been made, and a lively discussion took place regarding possible follow-up activities by the new committee. Issues included the possible development of guidelines for the inclusion of multimedia either as a part of the Wittenborn awards or as a separate award. One recommendation was to find a sponsor for such a category. Also discussed was the possibility of digitizing the award slides and mounting these on the Website with the presentation texts, with links to the winners, as well as the possibility of securing funding to enable an author to attend the award ceremony. Following further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Rosemary Haddad Recorder George Wittenborn Memorial Book Award Committee
