This position is located in the Smithsonian Institution Libraries (SIL). The employee provides reference assistance to a diverse clientele, assists with outreach projects, and collection maintenance, development, acquisition, circulation and preservation. Provides guidance and access to information resources, both inside the library and beyond the library, through databases, telecommunications networks, and cooperative arrangements. Oversees/assists with collection maintenance, inventory, stack maintenance, digitization planning and monitoring, de-accessioning, conservation/housing/labeling, and related projects. Maintains a current knowledge of developments in both relevant subject fields and librarianship through individual study, research, attendance at professional meetings, seminars, conferences, etc. Gives instruction to faculty, students, and other clientele on the content, nature and use of library resources, including how to search paper materials and various databases and other electronic media.
