Working under the supervision of the Digital Projects Coordinator and the Head of Special Collections Cataloging, this position collaborates and coordinates among digital capture, cataloging, and systems areas in the creation and maintenance of digital collections: creates, analyzes and edits metadata according to professional standards; creates text, image, audio and video access files according to best practices; may process special collections materials. Works closely with staff in Digital Services, Special Collections, Information Services, and other Research Institute units on digitization and cataloging projects. Participates in workgroups and/or project teams to develop solutions for improving workflow, productivity, and usability of digital assets. Creates derivatives of images, video, audio.  Analyzes existing metadata and determines how best to transition from one metadata standard to another.  Facilitates the migration of metadata using Excel, Perl, XSL.  Creates ingest packages for the digital repository and performs ingest procedures.  Maps, extracts, and tranforms existing cataloging data into usable metadata for digitized materials.  May process archival material and edit or enhance existing metadata records to fit the appropriate standard. Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in Art History or equivalent experience required.  MLS preferred.  2-3 years experience with database management systems required.  Knowledge of data modeling, metadata schemas, and controlled vocabularies and thesauri preferred.  Knowledge of archival and library descriptive practices.  Understanding of special collections cataloging.
