Job Title: Visual Resources Librarian

The Visual Resources Librarian serves as the library team member with direct responsibility for the Visual Resources Department and oversight of all digitization processes in the library. Key responsibilities include management of MDID database (currently consisting of 28,000 images), and slide collection, collection development, systems, cataloging, and reference/instruction for the visual resources collections. Shared responsibilities include supporting the use of technology for teaching across the campus and consulting on campus wide digitization projects. Other duties include participating in library planning, budgeting, reference, and collection development. 

The Visual Resources Librarian reports to the Library Director. He/She will supervise the Digital Imaging Specialist Assistant and also oversees supervision of 4-6 part-time student employees.

Examples of Duties:

1.Oversees all aspects of visual resources operation, including planning, implementation, and problem solving.

2.Evaluates services and workflow of visual resources department. 3.Recommends, implements, manages, and assesses new technologies as appropriate.

4.Installs, maintains, and performs trouble shooting for library systems and electronic resources related to digital images and slides.

5. Oversees project management (tracking and coordination) of collaborative initiatives to support faculty use of technology for teaching.

6.Serves as one of the library's liaisons to technical staff at Fenway Libraries Online and the College's Technology Department.

7.Develops the visual resources collection and delivery systems to meet curriculum needs and coordinates and performs image cataloging. 8.Coordinates visual resources photography and processing.

9.Provides reference and instruction for visual resources and promotes collections and services via the website and social media outlets.

10.Oversees all digitization processes undertaken by the library and serves as a resource to other campus departments regarding digitization.

11.Supervises and trains visual resources staff and hires and schedules student workers.

12.Creates and updates policies and procedures for visual resource department.

13.Collects and analyzes statistical data on visual resources operations; reports on departmental activity.

14.Manages designated budgets.

15.With the Public Services Librarian for Instruction, teaches and supports faculty in their use of technologies for teaching including WordPress.

16.With the Technical Services librarian, manages the college's diverse digital assets.

17.Shares collection development responsibilities with librarians and acts as liaison to 2-3 academic departments. Provides general reference service and bibliographic instruction in cooperation with all professional librarians.

18.Provides back-up support in other areas of the library.

19.Works on special projects as established during the library strategic planning process, and performs other duties as assigned.
