Job Title: Technical Services Librarian for Acquisitions and Serials
The Technical Services Librarian serves as co-coordinator for planning, implementation, and problem solving of all library technical service areas. Key areas of responsibility include acquisitions, serials management, financial analysis, expenditure tracking, and collection development. Secondary areas of responsibility are performed on an as-needed basis: back-up for library services including copy cataloging, processing, repair, and bibliographic instruction.
The Technical Services Librarian reports to the Library Director. He/She will supervise a Clerk IV.
1.Coordinates acquisition of library materials including all print and digital formats through firm orders, subscriptions, approval plan, and gifts. Oversees faculty and student requests for new material.
2.Oversight of library expenditures, including management of ledger and acting as liaison to purchasing office and business office as necessary.
3.Works with director and library budget committee to conduct financial analysis.
4.Manages orders through the library's integrated library system and will lead implementation and management of future ERM (electronic resource management) system.
5.Oversees serials ordering, receipt, check-in, processing, claiming, and binding.
6.With Technical Services Librarian for Systems and Cataloging, manages link resolver.
7.Serves as co-coordinator for the Technical Services Team with responsibility for planning and implementing all technical service functions for library operations.
8.Evaluates services and workflow of technical services department.
9.Shares collection development responsibilities for general library collections; serves as faculty liaison in 2-3 curriculum areas.
10.Provides primary back-up support for cataloging/materials processing, binding, and repair, and secondary back-up support in other areas.
11.Trains and supervises technical services assistant.
12.Creates and updates policies and procedures for technical service areas.
13.Collects and analyzes statistical data on technical services operations, and reports on departmental activity.
14.With library director, develops and maintains donor relations.
15.Oversees evaluation receipt and acknowledgement of donations of library materials which may include local travel.
16.Provides reference service and bibliographic instruction in cooperation with all professional librarians.
17.Serves on committees and represents the library in other capacities as needed.
18.Works on special projects as established during the library strategic planning process.
