Head Librarian (Available June 1, 2009)The Toledo Museum of Art, an internationally recognized, moderately sized museum, seeks a service-oriented, self-motivated Head Librarian. The Library serves Museum staff, university art students and faculty, and the public. The collection includes over 90,000 cataloged monographs and museums catalogues, over 20,000 files on artists, several thousand auction and dealer catalogues, and other resources.Duties and Responsibilities: Selected candidate will plan and administer the acquisition of library materials, the use of the library, and the preservation of the collection in order to provide a program of comprehensive library services related to the arts. Selects, trains, manages and evaluates staff; maintains vendor relationships; solicits gifts of materials and funds. Responsible for library budget and effective use of endowments and other funds. Provides in-depth research service for Museum staff on request. Serves as primary library representative; participates in cross-functional teams and task forces as appropriate. Advises library support group. Qualifications: ALA accredited Master’s in Library Science required, degree in art history preferred; functional literacy in least one foreign language; 3-5 years experience in an art library, including administrative and supervisory experience; demonstrated skills in collection development, research, communication, organization, administration, with a team-focused management style.
