Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops the Library’s short and long-term plans in correlation with institutional goals and objectives and in response to the activities of the College and the Gallery. 
  • Develops an annual Library budget in correlation with short- and long-term Library goals and, upon approval of the budget by the Dean, monitors implementation of the budget. Tracks and processes invoices. 
  • Assesses the Library’s services and needs through statistics and surveys, and distributes results as needed. 
  • Coordinates and executes public relation activities to further Library outreach to the Corcoran community, to fulfill the Library’s mission, and to support the Corcoran’s academic curriculum. 
  • Establishes collection development policies; selecting materials for purchase and overseeing said purchases. 
  • Regularly reviews collection for relevance, currency, and deaccessioning decisions. 
  • Acts as point of contact for potential donors of Library materials; coordinating acceptance and reviewing items for addition to the collection.
  • Maintains exhibition catalogue exchange program; monitoring incoming publications, updating exchange-partners list, and monitoring and mailing Corcoran publications. 
  • Establishes general Library policies and procedures; reviewing and revising said procedures as needed. 
  • Hires, schedules, trains, supervises, and evaluates the Library’s full-time and part-time staff including volunteers and interns. Assists supervising work study students and tracks their paperwork and timesheets. 

Qualifications

  • ALA accredited MLS; undergraduate degree in Art History, Studio Art, or related humanities preferred. 
  • Three to five years professional experience in an academic art library, including significant management experience, technical services background, library instruction, reference, and collection development. 
  • Knowledge of electronic information tools and library automation systems. 
  • Strong public service orientation and interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise with the SIRSI/DYNIX Symphony online catalog preferred.
