Art Librarian

The University of California, Santa Barbara is seeking a creative, innovative, energetic, self motivated, service oriented *Art Librarian*. 

Reporting to the Head of the Arts Library, and working with the Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services, the Art Librarian has responsibility for reference, instruction, cataloging, and collection development for the History of Art and Architecture, Department of Art, and the Media Arts and Technology Program. Scheduled reference services includes some evening and weekend hours.

The librarian collaborates with the Head of the Arts Library in collection development activities, including selection of information resources, preservation and weeding decisions, faculty liaison, and resources sharing. Responsible for development and maintenance of printed and web-based guides to information resources. Performs some original cataloging of art materials in all formats and a variety of languages. Hires, trains, supervise and evaluates library staff. Participates in library committees and task forces. 

Required Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS. Academic background and/or knowledge of Art, Art History, Architecture or related disciplines demonstrated through undergraduate or advance degree, coursework, or work experience. Skills in supervision and management. 
Demonstrated experience and strong commitment to public services, including providing user-centered information and reference services in person, electronically or by phone. Knowledge and experience in collection development and bibliographic instruction. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues, faculty, students, and community users in a diverse multicultural environment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated initiative and flexibility. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred: Knowledge of cataloging rules AACR2, USMARC formats, LCSH, metadata, and authority control. Experience using the ExLibris Aleph online system. Working knowledge of modern Western European languages. 
Knowledge of basic HTML and web page design.
