APA is currently searching for the right candidate to fill the position of Librarian in its Chicago-based Research Department. As part of APA's research team, the Librarian develops and maintains APA's collection of books, serials, and vertical files, which is considered one of the finest collections of materials on urban and regional planning practice in the country. In addition to classification, cataloging, and shelving/filing library materials, the Librarian will play a leading role in developing the Planners Digital Library, which will be accessible to off-site users via the web. The Librarian will also join his or her research colleagues on teams assigned to perform sponsored research, preparing bibliographies and identifying intellectual resources on specific topics. The Librarian will assists the research director in identifying sources of funding for research projects. Candidates should have a master’s degree in Library Science (M.L.S.) from an American Library Association accredited institution plus at least three years professional library experience. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong customer service orientation and excellent communication and organizational skills. Chicago is one of the most diverse, livable cities in the nation.
