Urban Studies and Planning Librarian - (Search Extended)

An opportunity for a service-oriented individual to work within the team environment of the University of Maryland (UM) Libraries in College Park, the largest university library system in the region and in close proximity to the nation’s capital. RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as liaison to the Urban Studies and Planning Program and the Real Estate Development Program, both within the School of Architecture. Provides reference assistance, in person and virtually. Provides course-related and general library instruction, and creates associated Web pages. Serves as collection development librarian for urban studies, planning, real estate development, and landscape architecture (design aspects). Serves on Library and/or University teams and committees. Participates in professional organizations related to librarianship and/or urban studies and planning. Works with colleagues on the Art and Architecture Libraries Team to manage collections and services in the two facilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences. Demonstrated subject background in urban studies and planning or related discipline, with reference, instruction and/or collections experience in an academic or special library; understanding of trends, resources, and technologies in these disciplines. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with library staff and patrons; excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferred: Advanced degree in architecture, urban studies and planning, or related discipline (such as community development, economics, political science, engineering). Three years professional experience in an academic or special library.
