Head Librarian - Savannah College of Art and Design - Atlanta

SCAD-Atlanta seeks qualified candidates for the position of head librarian.

The person in this position is responsible for administrative supervision, direction, scheduling and planning in a stand-alone library environment while working in close collaboration with the dean of the library and academic services and the executive librarian to maintain close communication and integration with the Jen Library's staff, resources and services. The person in this position also works in collaboration with SCAD-Atlanta administration, faculty and staff to integrate library services, resources and staff into all appropriate college activities and functions. The head librarian is responsible for explaining and assisting in the use of print and electronic information resources and conducting bibliographic instruction, library orientations and research workshops to individuals and classes. The person in this position will prepare reference and instructional materials in print and electronic forms.

Qualifications include an ALA-accredited M.L.S. degree, a degree (undergraduate or graduate) in a subject discipline taught by SCAD, the ability to work independently and provide day-to-day monitoring of all aspects of the library including supervision of staff, scheduling, collection development and liaison work with SCAD-Atlanta staff. Other required qualifications include a minimum of one to two years of library and supervisory experience, a strong public service orientation and familiarity with traditional and electronic information resources. The head librarian must demonstrate working knowledge of effective search strategies for online searching.

Candidates should have strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as knowledge of interlibrary loan policies, procedures and activities.
