Research and Instruction Librarian - Pratt InstituteDepartment: LibraryGrade: Assistant / Associate Professor Position Summary: The Pratt Institute Library, Brooklyn, New York, seeks an innovative and knowledgeable reference librarian to join its collegial, service-oriented staff. The Reference and Instruction Librarian provides high-quality public services in subject areas related to Pratt’s liberal arts and sciences. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to collection development in English, Film Studies, and Theatre, instruction, committee and task force work within and outside the Library, and such other activities as are deemed necessary for the smooth provision of information services. The incumbent must have a commitment to professional development and the ability to meet the requirements of promotion and tenure. Job Duties: This full-time, tenure-track position assumes responsibility for reference services, instruction, and acts as liaison to programs in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Pratt Institute librarians are expected to participate in library-wide planning and governance, to be able to work comfortably in a shared decision making environment. Qualifications: Education & Experience: ALA accredited MLS; academic background in liberal arts and/or humanities required; experience in providing library public services in an academic context; experience in providing library related instruction and experience with online systems required. Other: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills essential, as well as the ability to work effectively and patiently with a culturally diverse population. The successful candidate will be flexible, enthusiastic to learn, creative, and willing to embrace change. Professional contributions beyond the primary job, e.g., publications, active participation in the Institute and professional organizations, and other research and creative activity are required for reappointment, promotion and tenure. Candidates must show evidence or promise of such contribution. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate degree or graduate-level academic preparation in English, Social Science, or other Humanities discipline; one to two years of relevant experience in an academic library.
