Digital Image Archivist - Imaging Services

Responsibilities:
Archives digital images created by photographers and technicians in the imaging studio. Checks metadata, formatting, and file naming. Organizes images on server and burns backup media (DVD). Administers and maintains databases, coordinating data with other programs throughout the Museum. Communicates with other departments regarding availability and characteristics of images in the archive. Reformats and transfers images to other departments. Maintains documentation of procedural history of the archive. Scans archival documents.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Imaging, Imaging Science, or Library Science (Master’s degree preferred) and 2 years experience working with digital image archives or equivalent. Experience must include database management, file formats, media migration, metadata and preservation flatbed scanning. Proficiency with both Mac and PC platforms, including Photoshop and Microsoft Office applications. Experience with TMS, Cumulus, and Netexposure preferred. Database management skills, including creating organizational file structures. Knowledge and understanding of digital image file parameters (bit depth, color profiles, resolution, compression, image size). Ability to scan archival paper documents including safe handling, target values for reproduction and color correction. Knowledge of best practices for maintaining a long term digital image archive. Knowledge of modern art history. Excellent organizational and communication skills and an ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
