Director of Libraries
The Society of the Four Arts, Palm Beach, FL

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The Society of the Four Arts is a unique cultural center located in Palm Beach, Florida.  This non-profit organization consists of a museum, theatre, educational facility, gardens, and two libraries.  The Four Arts has an extensive and diverse schedule of events during the winter season. Offerings include art, music, drama and literature programs.  Although there are fewer programs during the summer months, the libraries remain busy all year long.

The Four Arts is currently seeking a Director of Libraries.  The Four Arts main library has a large collection of books, CDs, and DVDs.  The fine arts book collection is extensive and the rare book room is extraordinary.  The children’s library is in a separate facility which has books and resources for preschool children through young adults.  Children’s programs include story time and coordinating activities for the Palm Beach County school system. The present children’s librarian will report to the Director of Libraries.

There are many exciting changes planned for the libraries over the next few years and the applicant needs to have well-rounded experience in an organizational setting.  This person must be outgoing and excel in a collegial-type environment, which includes working closely with staff, volunteers, department directors, committees, and a governing board.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills are a must.  A proven history of managing employees is critical to meet the future needs of our libraries.  Projects include the evaluation and implementation of an automated library system and developing a long-range plan for collections, library-based programs, and budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Master’s Degree in Library Science.  Library experience should be current with at least five years as a Head Librarian or Library Director, who has managed three or more employees.
