 Rijn Templeton:
Treasurer
I've rarely heard an art librarian exclaim with delight at the color, tone or texture of a budget report and, at first glance, a dollars-and-cents spreadsheet can appear pretty boring. (Well, okay, maybe at second glance too.) But remember the old adage about beauty being only skin deep? Take another look. The information inside all those precisely aligned rows and columns is very revealing and, in the way we might appreciate most, functions as a beautiful resource tool.
ARLIS/NA is in a very exciting time of change ? replete with many choices of direction and important discussions about where we are going (and why). Financial pictures and budget sheets do more than just delineate our challenges and accomplishments: they function as critical components of our decision making processes. For fiscal information to perform effectively in that way, it is important for the Treasurer to continue to insure that the records are kept both accurately and ethically. Additionally, in order for the membership and the Executive Board to have and make the best use of that information, financial reports must germane, timely, and comprehensible.
I think I reflect a common appreciation when I say that ARLIS is and has been a wonderful resource. I have learned an enormous amount from conference sessions, from publications, from people I?ve met and, via ARLIS-L, from people I have yet to meet. It would be an honor to contribute to the continued success of ARLIS and I look forward to the opportunity of working with members and the Board to identify the organization?s needs and help shape its future.
