REVISION

Elizabeth O’Keefe and the Cataloging Advisory Committee coordinated the draft revision of the NH schedule.  This was posted on the ARLIS Web site in late summer for feedback from current and potential users.

PAPERS IN PROGRESS

Linda Roccos of the College of Staten Island will complete Ancient Greek Costume Studies: Annotated Bibliography, Commentaries, and Database in 2005.  To date no bibliography exists specifically for ancient Greek costume.  The bibliography will be considerably more comprehensive than any existing resource.  It includes works that are difficult to locate, works that are often not indexed under “costume” or “garments.” The proposed manuscript will include at least 450 annotated bibliographical references, a chronological list, and commentaries on themes of scholarly interest such as “Ancient Literary Sources,” “Textiles and Weaving,” “Female Garments,” “Macedonian Costume,” “Accessories,” and others.

A Handbook of Art Museum Librarianship, edited by Joan Benedetti, will comprise sixteen chapters in four parts:

"The Art Museum Library and Its Clientele"

       "Building Collections"

       "Developing Support"

       Thumbnail sketches of ten institutions

Within the first three parts, 59 essays have been proposed.  With a May deadline for submissions, the completed publication is expected at the end of 2005 or in early 2006.

Core Competencies and Curricula for Art Information Professionals, edited by Heather Ball, grew out of discussion in the ARLIS/NA Professional Development Committee.  With the support of data from a survey of art information professionals, the publication will describe and examine core attributes of the following areas:

       Subject knowledge & expertise

       Collection management, development & organization

       Instruction, reference & research

       Leadership

       Management

       Technology

The paper will include discussion of professional philosophy.

Kathrin Dodds and Heather Ball will conduct and compile an ARLIS/NA and Visual Resource Association compensation survey.  A survey was distributed in autumn 2004, and the results are being compiled.  A draft of the paper will be submitted to the editor in April 2005.

PROMOTION

The Library and the Accreditation Process in Design Disciplines:  Best Practices was promoted through a broadside, serving as a print and Web advertisement and including an order form. It was also announced on ARLIS-L.  The paper was listed in Books in Print and was announced over several group electronic-mail lists.  Its forthcoming publication was announced at meetings of the Academic Division, Art & Design School Division, Visual Resources Division, Architecture Section, and the Standards Committee.  It was promoted to each of the accrediting agencies as well.  Advertising in Art Documentation continued, and reciprocal advertising with Art Libraries Journal began.

The editor surveyed five publications and compiled their advertising rates for the ARLIS/NA president.

SUGGESTIONS & ISSUES

A style guide for writers of and contributors to Occasional Papers will be submitted to the ARLIS Web site editor for consideration for inclusion on the publications main page.

To pursue an idea initiated by ARLIS/NA President Jeanne Brown, the editor opened discussions with the publisher and editorial director of Scarecrow Press, who is willing to consider larger papers for publication.  An agreement on rights to reproduce those titles electronically needs to be reached.
