Annual Report (2003)
ARLIS/NA Architecture Section

Over 30 members attended the Architecture Section meeting at the Baltimore Conference in March of 2003. A full report of the section meeting is available at http://www.arlisna.org/conf2003/architecture.html .

Kitty Chibnik presided over the meeting. Sarah McCleskey assumed the role of Moderator, and Polly McCord the role of Vice-Moderator/Moderator-Elect. Karen Dewitt agreed to continue in the position of Column Editor. There was a lively discussion of the importance of the Architecture Section as a means of communication and interaction for ARLIS/NA members with an interest in architecture. Janine Henri, AASL Liaison, reported on the 2003 AASL meeting; there was also a discussion of the forthcoming Academic Architecture Statistics web application. There was a discussion of possible session proposals for the New York conference. Sarah McCleskey also solicited ideas via the ARCHSEC-L; Sarah and Polly McCord submitted a proposal on management issues in branch libraries. The proposal was accepted but with major modifications to include small or specialized libraries.

Three columns were published in ARLIS/NA Update in the 2003-2004 year, June 2003, October 2003, and February 2004.

The ARCHSEC-L was not particularly active over the past year. Jane Devine submitted a question regarding NAAB requirements, and Janine Henri responded that new requirements should be in place by 2004. Sarah McCleskey solicited advice regarding the database Material ConneXion and had responses from several members.

For the upcoming year, Polly McCord will serve as Moderator, and Karen Dewitt has agreed to serve as Vice-Moderator/Moderator-Elect. Sue Koskinen will continue as webmaster. Heather Ball has volunteered to serve as Update column editor. The Section will meet at the New York conference on Saturday, April 17 at 8:30 a.m. A pre-meeting breakfast is planned for 7:00 a.m.
