Finance Committee at the 2003 conference.
Served as board liaison to the
Professional Development Committee (PDC). Attended the annual meeting held at
the 2003 conference.
Served as board liaison to the
Northeast Region chapters: ARLIS/Delaware Valley, ARLIS/New England, ARLIS/New
York, ARLIS/Western New York. Attended the spring and fall meetings of ARLIS/DV
and the November 5th meeting of ARLIS/NY.
Communicated with the Book Arts
Discussion Group leader regarding their Web site and plans for becoming a Round
Table.
Professional Development
Committee
Attended the PDC meeting at the
conference. Communicated regularly with the PDC chair regarding board
activities/discussions, and committee business. Monitored committee e-mail
distribution list and participated when appropriate. Cathy Billings was selected
from 17 applicants (up over 500% from last year’s pool) as the recipient of
the Internship Award. A sub-committee of the PDC developed a list of
competencies (http://www.lib.vt.edu/info/ARLIS/core.html)
for art librarians and visual resources professionals and will sponsor a session
at the 2004 conference to discuss the list and solicit feedback for further
refinement. Plans for 2004 include continued development of the core
competencies, discussions of the possibility of a
year-round mentoring program (to supplement the mentoring program at the annual
conference), and revision of the recruitment brochure.
PDC
issues for the board: Will the core competencies require ARLIS/NA board
approval? How and where will the core competencies be published?
Attended the ARLIS/DV chapter's
spring and fall meetings, and the ARLIS/NY chapter's November 5 meeting.
Presented an update of board discussions and activities at each meeting.
Maintained regular communication with chapter chairs/presidents regarding
chapter and ARLIS/NA business, and monitored chapter e-mail discussion lists.
Attended the chapter's spring
and fall meetings. In addition to holding its regular meetings, ARLIS/DVC held
two outreach programs at Drexel University's College of Information Science and
Technology. Participated in the April outreach program. The Delaware Valley
Chapter has concerns regarding the requirement of its members to also maintain
membership in ARLIS/NA
The New England chapter held
its regular spring, and early and late fall meetings. The spring meeting was
held jointly with ARLIS/WNY. The chapter is discussing means for ensuring that
all chapter officers be able to attend the ARLIS/NA conference each year.
Attended the chapter's November
5 meeting. The NY chapter continues to hold several events and meetings each
year. The chapter's outreach plans include awarding 2004 conference travel
awards to five local library school students to cover conference registration
and chapter dues for 2004.
The Western New York chapter
held its regular spring and fall meetings. The spring meeting was held jointly
with ARLIS/NE. The chapter experienced turnover in its leadership late in 2003
and will have more officer turnover in 2004.
Some chapters are experiencing decreasing membership, the possibility of bank fees consuming account balances, and/or difficulties finding members to serve in leadership positions.
