Because sessions, seminars, and
workshops no longer require divisional sponsorship the division did not need to
officially sponsor any sessions; however, ADSL division members were involved in
and encouraged to attend the following programs at the 2003 conference:
- Panel Session XVII: “Nordic Expeditions: Exploring Art Information
Resources of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden,” (organized and
moderated by Susana Tejada, Albright-Knox Art Gallery)
- Panel Session XX: “The Pursuit of Parity: Librarians, Academe &
Faculty Status,” (organized and moderated by Paul Glassman, New York School of
Design, and Ruth Wallach, University of Southern California)
In addition the ADSL division
member and editor of the Occasional Papers Series, Paul Glassman announced the
upcoming Occasional Paper No. 14 The Library and the Accreditation Process in Design Disciplines: Best
Practices co-authored by Jeanne M. Brown, Paul Glassman & Janine J.
Henri. The description of the

and it is available for purchase as of summer 2003.
ADSL division members were
encouraged to submit the proposals for the upcoming New York conference. The
following proposals were accepted:
- Session IV: “Documenting
9/11: Approaches and Challenges,” Organizers and Moderators: Joy Kestenbaum,
Purchase College/SUNY; Claudia Hill, Columbia University Libraries, Columbia
University (Saturday, April 17, 2004 1:30 pm–3:30 pm)
- Session VII: “Destruction and Reconstruction of Cultural Heritage Affected by Wars: an International Perspective,” Organizers and Moderators: Nensi Brailo, California College of the Arts; Vibiana Bowman, Rutgers University (Sunday, March 18, 2004 9 am–10:30 am)
- Session IX: “Matters of
Scale: the Nature of the Smaller Art Library,” Organizer and
Moderator: Sarah E. McCleskey,
Clemson University (Sunday, March 18, 2004 9 am–10:30 am)

Strategic Plan Action Items:
- Internship Roster: Internships in
Art, Architecture & Design Libraries and

Creation of a clearinghouse of
shared statistics for art and design school libraries (goal II.d.) The
division’s web site is being redesigned.
The information such as members’ library annual reports, public service
documents, and instructional materials could be gathered and added to the site.
Status: still pending.

Use of the ADSL Website to
recommend print and electronic information
Update column editor
Elinor Nacheman continued publishing on topics relevant to ADSL division in
April 2003 and August 2003 issues of Update.
Status: ADSL website is being redesigned.
Its content needs to be revisited.

ADSL Division Statement of Purpose
Division’s
Co-moderators Rachel Beckwith and Nensi Brailo drafted a revised statement of
purpose and posted it onto ARLIS-L for discussion.
Status: Statement of Purpose has been revised and approved.
It needs to be posted on the division’s website.
Issues
for the ARLIS/NA Executive Board:

Concerns about the conference
schedule – ADSL members noted that sessions with related content seemed to
conflict on conference schedule. The conference planners have taken this into
account and have made improvements in preparation for the upcoming New York
conference.
