2002 Calendar of Events:

Jan. 9: At a board meeting at Avery Library we began working on what turned out to be an overly ambitious submission to the Silent Auction. We also scheduled a sub-committee meeting to discuss the mission of the ARLIS/NY Web site, discussed locations for future meetings, and approved $500 for the ARLIS/NA Conference Welcome Party and $50 for the New York Technical Service Libraries Spring Reception.

Jan.: Rebecca L. Kranz was named winner of the Celine Palatsky Travel Award to attend ARLIS/NY in St. Louis March 20-26, 2002.

Feb.2: At an ARLIS/NY Web sub-committee at P. Gabbard’s house, J. Viskochil generously agreed to purchase Adobe Acrobat Production software for work on our web site.  We re-designed and reconceptualized the site, making it a place for current news and information about the organization and local libraries.  The sub-committee decided to load newsletter issues as PDF files as they are published.  (ARLIS/NY Web site: www.arlisny.org)

Feb. 7: Tour of Neue Galerie and culinary delights at the Sabarsky Café.  Invitation from Faith Pleasanton. (See ARLIS/New York News v.23, no.1, p.5)

March 15: New York Technical Service Libraries Spring Reception. (See ARLIS/New York News v.23, no.2, p.3)

April 24: At a board Meeting at the Bard Graduate Center, we discussed raising dues from $15 a year to $20, keeping dues for students and retirees at $10 a year.  In a related matter, we discussed the problem of NY members not being NA members per NA regulations.  H. Topcik volunteered to include a letter in the next renewal mailing telling non-NA members to join the national organization.  We formed a nominating committee (L. Preston, D. Kempe) to find candidates for the 2003 election. There was also a discussion of Travel Award guidelines.

May 3:  Tour of Thaw Conservation Center at the Morgan Library.  Invitation from Elizabeth O’Keefe, Peggy Ellis and Reba Snyder. (See ARLIS/New York News v. 23, no.2, p.6)

June 12: Spring VRA/NY meeting at the Bard Graduate Center to which Michelle Murray invited ARLIS/NY members.  Program: Project Management Workshop for Librarians and Visual Resources Professionals based on the workshop materials designed and presented by Kathryn Deiss at the ARLIS/NY and VRA Joint Conference, March 21, 2002.

July 12: Tour of MoMA QNS Library and Museum.  Invitation from Milan Hughston. (see ARLIS/New York News v.23, no.3, p.4)

July 25: At a board Meeting at the Bard Graduate Center, we commended J. Viskochil for correcting errors in our New York by-laws on the web and for updating the membership email list (made more complex because some members did not wish to have their email addresses on the web).  We discussed our creation of an ARLIS/NY email distribution list through yahoo.com to notify our members of future events.  We voted on raising fees as discussed on April 24.  We decided to combine the election ballots with the renewal letter and form to save on postage.  In another money saving decision, we agreed to offer members the option of accepting newsletters and other announcements in 2003 in electronic form only.  This will require the addition of new questions on the renewal form.  The nominating committee submitted their slate of candidates for 2003: Vice-Chair/Chair Elect: Paul Glassman and Judy Connorton; Secretary: Heidi Hass and Evalyn Stone; Member-at-Large for Advertising: Faith Pleasanton and Barbara Reed.

Sept. 10: Fall meeting and tour at New York Public Library’s Celeste Bartos Education Center.  Invitation from Clayton Kirking.  (See ARLIS/New York News, v.3, p.3)

Sept. 23: Nominating committee and board member volunteers meet at the Bard Graduate Center to stuff envelopes with ballots and renewal letters and forms.

Sept. 28: Greenwood Cemetery Tour given by ARLIS/NY Secretary, Elizabeth Broman. (see ARLIS/New York News, v.4, p.2-3)

Nov. 14: At a board meeting at the American Folk Art Museum, we voted on the Celine Palatsky Travel Award guidelines and formed a sub-committee (J. Viskochil, P. Gabbard) to announce, receive, and evaluate submissions.  H. Topcik reported that we currently have 149 members. J. Viskochil established a web update schedule for the beginning of each month. We discussed the contents of our next two newsletters along with how they will be distributed with the new options now available to members.

Dec. 5: Annual holiday party and tour at the Cloisters Museum.  Invitation from Anna Maria Poma-Swank (see ARLIS/New York News, v.4, p.7)
