2001-2002 Moderator: Marcy Neth
Co-Moderator Judy Donovan
Update Editor Erika Dowell
Brief Narrative
RISS continues to address ongoing reference needs through conference programming and Update articles that address new online and print sources. For 2002-2003 we will attempt to continue moving the Update Editor into the Co-Moderator position while the Co-Moderator becomes the Moderator. That leaves only one position to fill each year.
For the past few years the RISS website has been hosted by Liv Valmstad at the University of Manitoba. She continues to update the information regularly with input from the Moderator.
We have had two successful articles in Update this year, both edited by Erika Dowell:
Electronic Texts for the Study of theNineteenth Century
New (Mostly) and Noteworthy (Definitely):Online Sources for Arts of the Book and Printmaking
At the Los Angeles conference in 2001 RISS sponsored "Too Much of a Good Thing? Selection, Collection Development, and Cataloging of Art/Design Web Sites" and "Classroom Odyssey: Teaching Adventures in the Art Library & Cyberspace". We are sponsoring one program at the St. Louis conference; "Buried Treasure: Artists' Files in the Digital Age". Due to space considerations, other programming was not accepted for the conference.
ARLIS/NA Strategic Plan
RISS is responsible for the following action items:
3. (IV E, I G) Working closely with the AWS Administrative Board, develop procedures to ensure that the ARLIS/NA website provides references and/or links to useful print and electronic art and interdisciplinary information resources reflective of each Division, Section, or Round Table.
To address this need, we have added reference-specific links to the RISS website.
6. (II A) Contribute to the establishment of professional development and continuing education programs of the Society.
Our conference programming continues to address this item.
9. (I D) Continue to promote efforts of librarians who teach. Promote dissemination of instructional materials through LOEX Clearinghouse
for Library Instruction.
RISS needs to participate in the creation of more educational materials. This will be addressed at the 2002 Business meeting.
